KSA 16 - Teachers are able to communicate a personal vision of their own teaching
Below is my Philosophy of Teaching

PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING
I am creative. I believe that there was a time when all of us were creative at some point in our lives. As children, we observed the world and experienced it with our minds and our hands - we CREATED our own worlds with our imaginations. It was physical, it was visual, and it was alive! And yet, many of us do not create anymore. We were shamed out of "making", told to grow up, or told to stop dreaming.
Creativity never left me. Or maybe, I never left creativity. I have always made art and it has always been the passion that I have for creating that I wanted to share with others. I quickly realized that it did not matter what people had a passion for, as long as they had passion.
As an aspiring teacher, I believe it is my responsibility to help others find their passion, fuel it, and guide it so that they will learn successfully. I want to help students find what they love about something that they may not like at all.
This is my philosophy of teaching...
Classroom Environment
I believe that it is my duty to create a safe, supportive, and respectful classroom community that will allow students to feel comfortable taking risks in order to learn. I want to create an environment that engages and energizes students so that they come to class with enthusiasm and excitement, and know that it is a place where judgment is left behind. I believe that the best way to build a positive classroom atmosphere is to build genuine relationships with my students by getting to know them, their interests, and what goes on in their lives outside of the classroom and the school.
Students
I believe it is important to account for a wide variety of learning styles, preferences, and exceptionalities in order to accommodate each and every student, both inside and outside of the classroom. No two individuals learn or experience the world the same, and it is my responsibility as an educator to recognize this. By assessing students needs (profiles), interests, and readiness, I can better determine my next steps for them in the classroom.
I also believe that each student is unique, not only as an individual human being, but also as a learner and that it is extremely important that I recognize these differences. I am creative, but not everyone is creative, and I will acknowledge that my students carry with them varying experiences and talents.
Professional Development
I believe that professional development is crucial to my own growth as an educator and that it is a necessary element of change that I must embrace. I want to be able to improve my teaching ability and teaching quality with time, experience, feedback, and the collaboration of my co-workers, not to mention my students.
Assessment & Evaluation
I believe that it is my responsibility to be fair in my assessment of students and to be a clear communicator of my expectations and my reasoning behind an evaluation. I want my students to understand what is expected of them, how to succeed in meeting those expectations, and how to improve upon those results next time. I also want my students to understand why they received the evaluation they did and report these findings with specific, descriptive, feedback in a consistent and timely manner. I believe that by including students in the creation of assessments they can better understand their progress and become accountable in their own learning. This metacognition occurs through independent self-assessments, peer feedback, and through my own feedback and guidance as an educator.
I believe that remaining passionate about teaching and learning will lead to my success, and it is my goal to make my passion for art AND teaching, contagious.
Teachers are amazing! Celebrate them!
